Peat PETE

Rocking chair PETE is made from peat – a natural material that has formed for about 10,000 years in the depths of earth. This special kind of peat is obtained in a specific marshland in Latvia and provided by a company called APRIL MARKET. But PETE is not only an ecological piece of contemporary children furniture - it is also educational. Peat tells us the story of the fate of befallen marshes and similar territories over hundreds and thousands of years. It gives the child a different experience with its texture, special caring and teaches about the life cycles of things.

Peat is warm to touch and a high air capacity which can reach 20-40% ensures that in dried form it becomes a hard but light material. It is also a sterile material, so it cannot accommodate micro-organisms and isn’t harmful to children.
PETE is best for children in age 4-6 years, when they are in the second cognitive development stage. In this phase children actions are intuitive rather than logical. They use symbols and develop their imagination, so they are keen on pretend and role play, arts and crafts. PETE can be a part of these games and also be a reason to learn about nature.
PETE is as a living organism – it arrives in your home, becomes your friend, you play and laugh together, but eventually he becomes old and passes away. When PETE is no longer usable for play, it can be put outside in the garden where it absorbs water and decays.

Come meet Peat PETE 14-17 October at SaloneSatellite WorldWide Moscow 2015!
